IDRO project has been carried out by Softeco Sismat S.p.A., with
the co-operation of the "Universitą di Genova, Dipartimento di Ingegneria
Ambientale" and the "Ufficio Idrografico e Mareografico di Genova".
The project has been financed by the Italian State (MIUR).

The sustainable management of water basins and the protection
of the geological environment are the main objectives of the
IDRO project. During the project a set of software services, focused on
the management of water supplies, have been designed, developed
and tested:
A cadastre of the hydrological data which integrates physical
territorial data and administrative data
A predictive model which allows one to estimate the water flow
on the basis of a run off rainfall model
A portal for the dissemination and the collection of data
via Internet
These services constitute an integrated set dedicated to the public
administrations which manage the water basins and issue water
exploitation concessions to companies or single users. They allow
the definition and the application of innovative land management
protection policies. In particular the run off rainfall model
allows one to simulate the daily evolution of the water resources
in the basins and to optimize the exploitation of water resources,
without compromising the basins natural environment. Moreover
they allow the dissemination of hydrological data and make it
available to companies and institutions which operate in
environmentally protected areas, as well as to all citizens.
IDRO has been finely tuned and tested on the water basins of the Liguria
region, and is presently undergoing tests at the "Provincia di Genova".
The software has been designed and developed using a modular and
open approach and can be adapted to several other regions in
Italy and in others parts of Europe.
